Three-Tier Redressal System

Steps to File a Complaint

  1. Send a legal notice to the seller/service provider first
  2. If unresolved, file complaint at edaakhil.nic.in (online portal)
  3. Pay nominal court fee (₹200–₹5,000 depending on claim amount)
  4. No advocate required for District Commission
  5. Hearing within 21 days of admission

What You Can Claim

  • Refund or replacement
  • Compensation for loss or injury
  • Removal of defect in goods/services
  • Discontinuation of unfair trade practice
  • Punitive damages

Time Limit

Complaint must be filed within 2 years of the cause of action. Courts can condone delay if sufficient cause is shown.

Filing a consumer complaint costs as little as ₹200 — far less than any civil court.
